News: Study up on your Dragonology, Wizardology and Pirateology in 2008.
Codemasters has announced they've reached a deal with Templar Publishing to bring that company's popular 'Ology' series of books to the Wii and DS in 2008. A game based on Dragonology will be the first game to come out of the deal will be, it will be released in the summer. It will be followed by Pirateology and Wizardology. The series also features two other books, Mythology and Egyptology, which were not mentioned as part of the deal.
The 'Ology' books are edited by Dugald Steer and are large "encyclopedias" purporting to tell the true story of their subject in a journal format. Each book also has a unique cover design that has made them a hit with children and parents. Pirateology has a built-in compass, Dragonology has a ridged cover simulating dragon scales and Wizardology is covered in felt, like a spellbook.
The Wii games based on each book will be more focused on action, while the DS titles will be adventure games that are based around the concept of an "intereactive book."
"Extending Codemasters' reach in the family entertainment category, this alliance with Templar further demonstrates the continued growth and diversification of our portfolio," said Barry Jafrato, Senior Vice President of Brand, Codemasters. "With each title based on a popular fantasy theme and delivering a truly content-rich read, Dragonology, Wizardology and Pirateology are major entertainment properties that form a perfect base on which to build original and creative gaming experiences."
