News: Activision's rhythm rocker selling like hotcakes.
Activision has announced that North American first week sales of its recently released Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock have exceeded $115 million. This is an achievement to be proud of, not least because this makes the latest Guitar Hero Activision's largest product launch of all time.
УGuitar Hero III is the game that everyone is talking about. It is the only video game to make the Toys СR' Us Hot Toy list for 2007 and Toy Wishes' Hot Dozen 2007, which forecast the most popular holiday gifts of the season.Ф said Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision Inc. УDespite having significantly increased out production capabilities for the holiday, there is still a high likelihood that we will not be able to meet demand for this game on every platform.Ф
Is this tough competition for Rock Band? It certainly looks like it Ц if we're going to (collectively) look into the future, we're guessing Rock Band won't be such a huge seller at release, but not for the wrong reasons. We reported on the shortage Rock Band will have, yesterday, and that, bundled with the $169 instrument bundle being the only version of the game available at release, will likely stop it from selling $115 million worth of units when it's out.
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was released for the Wii, PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360 on October 28.
