Special: Our weeklong look at our 52 favorite games of 2007 reaches the homestretch with part 4.

From the January releases of Lost Planet, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, WoW: The Burning Crusade and Hotel Dusk all the way to the end of the year with it's flurry of fantastic games one after the other, 2007 has been an amazing year for gaming. With the first full year of the seventh-generation of gaming coming to a close, there is a lot to look forward to in 2008.

But first let's take a look back and pretend that we won't get a chance to play any of those great games that are lined up for 2008 (Step back from the ledge Smash Bros. fans). Let's pretend that the only games in 2008 we'll get to play are ones from 2007. Let's say that these are the 52 Games We'll Still Be Playing From 2007.

The Top 12

The Bigs
Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Publisher: 2K Games
Developer: Blue Castle Games
Release Date: June 26, 2007

"The Bigs is a solid arcade styled game that brings fun and even some depth to a sub-genre that tends to offer minimal options to make it worth its asking price. For $60 on PlayStation 3 you get Rookie Challenge, online play, Home Run Pinball, and all that combined is actually a good value, especially if you play both single and multiplayer games. The gameplay isn't drastically different from the real game, and thus can win over purists looking for something simple to play, and it's also accessible enough so the baseball fans intimidated by the simulation games can enjoy without having to memorize hundreds of things or do tedious (for them) micromanaging. Expectations were low, and it was feared to be a quick cash-in, but The Bigs is a great little arcade-style baseball game that's a pleasant surprise." - Adam Woolcott

The Darkness
Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Publisher: 2K Games
Developer: Starbreeze Studios
Release Date: June 25, 2007

"It doesn't quite reach the heights of Chronicles of Riddick, but The Darkness is still one fine first-person shooter/adventure game. The story is well-told with plenty of twists to keep you on edge, the gameplay is unique and fun (generally) and it's quite a looker too, but not in the way you'd expect...because I don't think looking at rust-belt style parts of town is particularly pretty, but artistically it's a hit. Starbreeze is showing they are masters of atmosphere, as the game just oozes it, drawing you into its universe from the instant you begin the campaign." - Adam Woolcott

The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Publisher: 2K Games
Developer: Bethesda Softworks
Release Date: March 27, 2007

"The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion provided one of the most amazing gaming experiences of 2006 for Xbox 360 users. And recently PS3 gamers have been able to get in on the action with their own version of Bethesda's masterpiece. Shivering Isles marks the first full-fledged expansion to augment the original game (as if it hadn't justified its price already). The adventure is still worthwhile to those who love Oblivion, and it holds up in terms of the original adventure's entertaining action and top-shelf presentation. " - Glenn Wigmore

The Red Star
Platform: PlayStation 2
Publisher: XS Games
Developer: XS Games
Release Date: April 23, 2007

"At times it astounds me that The Red Star was finally released at all. It astounds me further that the УIt's a Contra and Final Fight Mashup!Ф marketing pitch actually rings true. And the fact that it's an honest-to-god great game astonishes me most of all. But beyond all this astonishment, I'm impressed. Even though it's a Уbudget gameФ for a Уlast-generation system,Ф The Red Star is a must buy for shooter fans and beat Сem up fans." - John Scalzo
