News: Another UK magazine reveals a big sequel.
The latest issue of PSW Magazine (#103) has revealed the first details on Just Cause 2 for the PS3. According to the magazine, the sequel will be built from the ground up for next-generation sysmtes (using Avalanche's new Avalanche Engine 2.0). Eidos has also promised a new focus on wild theatrics and distinct lack of realism as Just Cause 2 will be "bigger, broader and crazier." The new, more "wild" gameplay options remind me more than a little of Eidos' other open world adventure, Total Overdose. And if we can't get a sequel to that game, this sounds like the next best thing.
The game's lead designer, Peter Johansson, is interviewed in the article. According to Johansson, development is going smoothly, "We identified the key areas we wanted to improve for Just Cause 2. We wanted to make better use of our huge game world, enhance the stunts, improve the combat and reward exploration more. We feel we have been successful at that and created a true sequel."
Johansson also talked about the sequel's new direction and lack of side missions, "We've ditched the concept of side-missions. Freedom is something of a myth... In Just Cause 2 freedom should be more of a reality. The side-missions are out. You'll begin the game with nothing but your Cuban heels and a winning smile."
Just Cause 2 will be coming to the PS3 (and likely the Xbox 360 and PC) sometime this year. We'll have more soon.
