News: Mass Effect blows away all sales predictions as well.
Microsoft may have had a rough holiday season when it came to Xbox Live outages, but they pulled down fantastic sales numbers which they are now proudly sharing with the world.
According to Microsoft, 17.7 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold worldwide since the system launched in November 2005.
The company's two biggest fall releases,
Halo 3 and
Mass Effect, also put up big numbers last year. The final entry in the Halo trilogy selling 8.1 million copies since it was released in September, while the first entry in the (planned) Mass Effect trilogy has sold 1.6 million copies since that game went on sale in late November.
For those scoring at home, these numbers mean that 46% of Xbox 360 owners also own Halo 3. We'll have more on all things Xbox 360 soon.
