News: And we have a guess about which franchise inside.
EA has announced they've teamed up with acclaimed developer Starbreeze Studios to reinvent a classic EA franchise on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. As of now, EA would not say which franchise Starbreeze would be reinventing or when the game would be released. The untitled game is currently only known as Project RedLime.
However, I think it might be possible to infer a few things from this codename and Starbreeze's involvement to pin down which franchise they're talking about.
Starbreeze is primarily known for developing first person shooters, having released The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher and The Darkness in recent years. They are also currently working on another FPS, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena for release this year. So it's safe to assume that the game will be a first person shooter.
But it's the RedLime that holds an even bigger clue. The Veterans of Foreign Wars use red poppies as their official memorial flower. Red poppies require lime in the soil to grow. The Veterans of Foreign Wars are most closely associated with World War II.
By now you've probably guessed, but I believe EA has given Starbreeze the keys to the Medal of Honor series.
But EA executives are not offering up any specifics just yet.
УEA Partners is thrilled to hand over the keys to one of EA's most acclaimed franchises to Starbreeze Studios,Ф said David DeMartini, vice president and general manager of EA Partners. УStarbreeze's pedigree is undisputed and we could not be happier to welcome them to the EA Partners family. The team is creating an incredibly innovative take on a classic property and EA Partners is poised to deliver a blockbuster launch on the global stage.Ф
We'll have more on Project RedLime (whatever it is) soon.
