News: Better break out your PSone memory cards.

It looks like Game Almighty made a bit of a goof yesterday, the version of Metal Gear Solid that will appear in the Essential Collection will NOT be on a PS2 disc. The official word has come down from Konami that Metal Gear Solid will ship on two PSone discs, just as it originally did all those years ago.

So this means gamers will also have to have a PSone memory card handy if they want to save their game. Better start haunting used game stores now.

Here's what Konami had to say:

So it looks like there was a miscommunication about the format for the games. I recieved this note from Konami's Michael Shelling - '...to be clear, MGS1 is not a port; it's the original game on 2 CD's not a DVD.' The original Metal Gear Solid will be appearing on PS1 discs. What this means for saving the game, etc, I am not sure.

My apology for the confusion.

We'll have more soon.
