Sabotage becomes Velvet Assassin @ Gaming Target

News: Pandemic's Saboteur, however, remains the same.

Gamecock and Replay Studios have announced their World War II shooter title formerly known as Sabotage will now be known as Velvet Assassin. Even with the title change, the game is still on track for a fall 2008 release on the Xbox 360 and PC.

Velvet Assassin retells the story of real-life British spy Violette Szabo (named Violette Summer here). During WWII, Violette worked behind enemy lines in Germany to sabotage the German war machine.

Gamecock says the reason for the rename was because Velvet Assassin had grown far beyond the original "Sabotage" title. Of course, it might have something to do with another World War II title based around sabotage that's coming this fall from Pandemic and EA titled Saboteur. But don't let that stop the guys at Replay from giving their opinion on the name change:

"Rather than a trite, overused, and generic working title like Sabotage, Velvet Assassin captures the heart of what we're trying to accomplish," said Sascha Jungnickel, Creative Director at Replay Studios. "From the start we've wanted a game with a strong female lead that stays true to the history of Violette Szabo while pulling players into a world of dark intrigue."
