News: The game, previously known as Project M, now stands for Moon.

Developer Renegade Kid dubbed its next Nintendo DS title "Project M" on Halloween, the same day that the company's first DS game, Dementium: The Ward, shipped to stores. For four months, we wondered what "M" stood for and now we know that the answer was right in front of our faces (well, really, above our heads) every night.

Moon is another DS first-person action title that takes place onЕ you guessed it, the moon. This time, the sci-fi adventure occurs in the year 2058, when researchers building a lunar base discover an alien hatch. And that, according to this morning's press release, is only the beginning of what they find.

Bill Swartz of Mastiff (the company publishing the game) hypes the game and kind of-sort of compliments the developer in saying that УMoon is dark, twisted, heart pounding, frequently violent and always disturbing. Pretty much what you'd expect when you take madmen like Renegade Kid.Ф

The response to that backhanded compliment should be the patented УThanksЕ I think,Ф but Jools Watsham, Owner and Creative Director at Renegade Kid, played it cool and went with the more traditional: "Moon demonstrates the impressive power of Nintendo DS, while appealing to a crowd that's looking for a first-person action-adventure title that delivers a menacing story and really puts your gaming skills to the test."

Moon will use Dementium: The Ward's sophisticated 3D engine, which the team is now referring to as УThe Renegade Engine,Ф in a much deserved, self-praising way. Considering the engine's high praise four months ago, the 2.0 version should make Moon a DS game to watch out for. GameSpot unveiled the first-ever trailer at 39 minutes and 40 seconds into the show, just after Watsham says that Moon will shine on a Fall 2008 release.

Fast Forward to 39:40 for the trailer of Moon for DS.
