News: Low sales force retailer to boot the device.
How many people walked into their local GameStop wanting an MP3 player? More than you would think actually, I have some stories that I could tell you about people coming in asking for iPods. But how many people were actually buying an MP3? Very few. That is why gaming retail giant GameStop has decided to cease sales of Microsoft's Zune.
"We have decided to exit the Zune category because it just did not have the appeal we had anticipated," said a GameStop spokesperson.
This means Microsoft's Zune will no longer be carried in the 5,400 GameStop stores that are already open or the 600 which are planned to open this year, which seems like a major blow for Microsoft. Still, if you are looking for a Zune, especially with the announcement that XNA titles will playable soon, fear not, as Best Buy and the like will still carry the device.
