News: After all that countdown nonsense, Blizzard announces Diablo III.

After weeks of speculation, Blizzard has announced that Diablo III is in development for the PC and Mac. No release date was given, but with Blizzard's time split between Starcraft II, a World of Warcraft expansion and now Diablo III, it might be a while.

Diablo III was announced at Blizzard's WorldWide Invitational in Paris and the initial details at the show included two character classes (Witch Doctor and Barbarian), male and female options for all classes and confirmation that cooperative play will be included.

In addition, Blizzard has launched a very large website for the game at Blizzard.com/diablo3 that includes screenshots, video, concept art, storyline details and an FAQ.

After all the detective work that went into Blizzard's "countdown" earlier this week, it's interesting to note that none of the coded filenames or ice imagery had anything to do with the Diablo III announcement. It appears Blizzard learned their lesson from the Starcraft II reveal.

We'll have more on Diablo III soon.
