News: And play it in both Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Activision and Metallica have announced that Metallica's newest album, Death Magnetic, will be available to download on Guitar Hero III this Friday, September 12, the same day the CD will be released in stores. This marks the first time a a complete album has been available to download in a music game on the same day it will be released in stores.

The Death Magnetic package will be available to download on the PlayStation 3 for $17.99 or on the Xbox 360 for 1440 Microsoft Points. It will include all ten album tracks, although "Suicide & Redemption" will be included as two separate Guitar Hero exclusive versions with extended solos by James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. The full track list is as follows:

  • "That Was Just Your Life"
  • "The End of the Line"
  • "Broken, Beat & Scared"
  • "The Day That Never Comes"
  • "All Nightmare Long"
  • "Cyanide"
  • "The Unforgiven III"
  • "The Judas Kiss"
  • "My Apocalypse"
  • "Suicide & Redemption" (Guitar Hero Exclusive Version #1)
  • "Suicide & Redemption" (Guitar Hero Exclusive Version #2)

The Death Magnetic downloadable content will also be forward compatible with Guitar Hero: World Tour when it's released in October. So, one download will work with both games.
