News: Age of Empires developer Ensemble Studios will close its doors in early 2009.
Ensemble Studios will close its doors when Halo Wars launches next year, according to a Microsoft Game Studios e-mail first leaked to gamesindustry.biz and later confirmed by Microsoft.
Better known as a PC RTS developer, Ensemble Studios created the critically acclaimed Age of Empires franchise in 1997. Four years later, it was sold to Microsoft, continued its award winning Age series, and made a spin-off RTS game and expansion called Age of Mythology.
Halo Wars, the soon-to-be shuttered company's first (and last) console RTS, is expected to release in early 2009.
