News: Are Wii owners out there ready to really rock?

This review of the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2 at USA Today includes some news that should make Wii owners very happy. According to the article, the newspaper has confirmed with MTV Games (the owners of Rock Band developer Harmonix) that online play and downloadable tracks will be available in the Wii version of Rock Band 2. Here's the relevant part of the article:

While unannounced, MTV Games has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Wii version of "Rock Band 2" will offer the same online functionality -- i.e. song downloads and Internet multiplayer modes -- as the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 versions. The PS2 version, however, will not include online connectivity.

Of course, how Wii owners will save the tracks to their console (with it's tiny amount of flash memory and all) was not revealed. We'll have more soon.
