News: And it's not a collection of Sonic games.

Sega has announced their most extensive compilation yet as they revealed Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection today. More than just a collection of Sonic the Hedgehog games, the collection will include over 40 Sega-published titles from the Genesis years. The game will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (and now with 720p HD output) for the budget price of $29.99 in Spring 2009.

The game jams together the offerings from the previous Sega compilations the Sonic Mega Collection and the Sega Genesis Collection while also adding in a few more. The full list of games that will be included can be found right here:

  • Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
  • Alien Storm
  • Altered Beast
  • Beyond Oasis
  • Bonanza Bros.
  • Columns
  • Comix Zone
  • Decap Attack
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Dynamite Headdy
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Ecco II: The Tides of Time
  • E-SWAT
  • Fatal Labyrinth
  • Flicky
  • Gain Ground
  • Golden Axe
  • Golden Axe II
  • Golden Axe III
  • Kid Chameleon
  • Phantasy Star II
  • Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
  • Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium

  • Shining in the Darkness

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3
  • Streets of Rage

About the only thing missing the ToeJam & Earl games. More games will be included in the collection as unlockables and Sega has said those will likely come from Sega's Master System and arcade game library.
