News: There's something strange in the neighborhood... Atari is publishing a game I want to play.

Rumors never, ever lie as it looks like almost all of the castoffs from the Activision Blizzard have found new homes as Atari has announced they will be publishing Ghostbusters in 2009. Originally scheduled for a release this Fall, a new publisher calls for a new release date, but the game will still be coming to all of the previously announced platforms including DS, PC, PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.

The game is essentially Ghostbusters 3 as it takes place two years after Ghostbusters II and reunites all of the original bustin' team (except for Rick Moranis). The game's script was even written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. The team of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson lend their voices and in-game likenesses to the game along with William Atherton (Walter Peck), Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz) and Brian Doyle-Murray (as Mayor Jock Mulligan).

Ghostbusters: The Game will also technically be three different games. While all three will follow the same plot, a new recruit joins the team during another ghostly invasion of Manhattan, Ghostbusters for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 will be developed by Terminal Reality and will feature a more realistic graphical style and online play. Ghostbusters for the PS2 and Wii will be developed by Red Fly Studios and will feature a more cartoony graphical style with splitscreen co-op play. Finally, the DS version will be developed by Zen Studios and players will actually control the original Ghostbusters themselves.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the only Activision Blizzard game currently without a publisher is Double Fine's Brutal Legend. I'm sure some company will step up and pick it up shortly.

We'll have more soon.
