News: The truth emerges and it's not good.

The swirling rumors of the last week have finally been put to rest as the truth about Free Radical's future has been revealed by 1UP.

According to 1UP, the reports of Free Radical's demise have been greatly exaggerated, but not by much. It seems that the company will lay off 140 people, effective December 31. About 40 will remain as the company enters administration (the UK version of bankruptcy). Those remaining staff members will now work for a company that is currently up for sale.

Free Radical was started by key members of the Rare team that worked on GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. In turn, several key members of the Free Radical team have recently formed their own development company, Pumpkin Beach.

Free Radical's most recent game was Haze, a commercial and critical flop, for the PS3. The company is also working on TimeSplitters 4 and a project for LucasArts.
