News: The holiday season was very good to the world's largest video game retailer.
While it seems to be encoded in our DNA to rag on Gamestop, the company is crowing today about record sales during the nine-week holiday season (November 2, 2008 thru January 3, 2009).
During that time period, the company recorded sales of $2.86 billion, which is a 22% increase over 2007's holiday sales of $2.33 billion.
According to Gamestop, hardware sales were lead by the Xbox 360 and the Wii. As far as games go, the company lists the following games as the top five:
Call of Duty: World at War (DS, PC, PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360)
Guitar Hero: World Tour (PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360)
Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360)
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (PC)
Wii Fit (Wii)
For those keeping score at home, not a single PS3-exclusive title made the list, nor was Sony's machine included in the leading hardware sales tally.
