News: And the DS sells a ridiculous number of systems in a single month.
The NPD Group has released their report on the bestselling games and consoles in December and it looks like the Wii absolutely dominated the competition during the holiday shopping season. Wii Play, Nintendo's minigame collection that comes with an extra Wii Remote that was released in early 2007 took the top spot. Overall, Wii games were responsible for five slots in the top ten, including four in the top five. Only the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: World at War could crack the upper half of the list with a finish at number two.
Finally, A big surprise is Mario Kart DS at number eight. Especially considering the fact that the game was originally released in November 2005.
Nintendo continued their dominance on the console front, as the Wii sold over two million consoles while the DS set a single month record of 3,040,000 systems sold. The Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 at a rate of two to one, while the PSP also topped the PS3 in sales for the fifth straight month.
