News: Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon to be exact.

While it's still a little early to be sure, it looks like Atlus plans to keep the PlayStation 2 afloat with a steady stream of quirky Japanese-style role playing games. Their latest localization proect is Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon. That mouthful of a game (and sequel to 2006's Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army) will be released on May 12.

Set once again in the roaring 1920s, Devil Summoner 2 features the return of spiritual detective Raidou Kuzunoha:

A new threat to Japan's Capital calls for the return of its case-solving, tube-slinging Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th. When a woman walks into the Narumi Detective Agency and asks to find a man, Raidou's boss is reluctant to accept, but soon it's clear there's more to the case than it seems on the surface. It isn't long before Raidou is on the trail of crooked gamblers, masked ninja, and strange insects... a trail leading him inexorably to the mysterious King Abaddon.

The game will include an upgraded battle system (including the ability to command two demons in battle) with an expanded demon lineup and new weapons and special attacks.

Finally, if you plan on buying Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, you should probably be quick about it. The game will be "produced in limited quantities" and each copy will be individually numbered and bundled with a Raiho plushie. Atlus also warns that "[s]hould there be future print runs of the game, they will ship without the Raiho collectible."

Is it a truthful heads up to gamers on a possibly hard-to-find game or is Atlus using the world's oldest marketing scam? I guess we'll find out on May 12.
