News: Can a hedgehog run through a foot of snow?

While it's been overshadowed by Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has been one of the biggest hits on the Wii. So with the Winter Olympics less than a year away, it's no surprise that Nintendo and Sega are going back to the Olympic Village with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. Once again developed by Sega under the guidance of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, the game will be released on the DS and Wii in late 2009.

The game will feature a variety of events (including Alpine Skiing and Speed Skating) along with more playable characters than the previous Olympic outing. And speaking of Wii Fit, Olympic Winter Games will include optional Wii Balance Board support for some of the events (I would guess the skiing and skating events).

ФSega has been a valued publishing partner of Nintendo for many years and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is the ultimate representation of that relationship,Ф said Reggie Fils-Aime, president and COO, Nintendo of America. УWe look for this game to continue the tradition its predecessor started by bringing new events, new characters, and new gameplay experiences to fans worldwide.Ф

We'll have more soon.
