News: Ubisoft drops the axe.

A few months ago, Ubisoft acquired Massive Entertainment, the team behind the alternate history RTS World in Conflict for the PC. Massive originally had partnered with Sierra to publish a port of the game on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 titled World in Conflict: Soviet Assault. Now, IGN has learned from Ubisoft that the company has no interest in continuing work on the PS3 and Xbox 360 version.

When contacted for an update on the console release, Ubisoft provided this statement, "World in Conflict: Soviet Assault will be released for the PC later this month. A console version of World in Conflict is not planned for release at this time."

So while that doesn't make a console port impossible, it does mean that World in Conflict: Soviet Assault is effectively canceled. At least the PC expansion, also titled World in Conflict: Soviet Assault, is on track for a March release.

We'll have more soon.
