BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, the first high definition 2D fighting game from Arc System Works has been given an American release date. Aksys Games will be publishing the game that is considered the spiritual successor to Arc System Works' popular Guilty Gear series, BlazBlue will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this Summer.
BlazBlue will feature 12 fully hand-drawn high resolution characters with over 1800 frames of animation each. The game will also include a six player online (two players fighting it out while four other players get a chance to watch and call "Winner!") and dual soundtrack options for both English and Japanese dialogue. The PS3 adn Xbox 360 versions will also feature a ton of things not found in the original Japanese arcade release including new music, animations, backgrounds, and a fully fleshed-out story mode.
"As the spiritual successor to the Guilty Gear series, BlazBlue pushes the 2D fighting game genre by introducing intuitive system mechanics with beautiful 2D animation and gorgeous 3D backgrounds," states Michael Manzanares, Associate Producer, Aksys Games. "Once you play BB, you'll find it hard to go back to anything less."
