News: Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009 sells over 500,000 copies on the Wii.
Bucking the "conventional wisdom" that says third party games do not sell well on the Wii (even though they do), 3G Studios has announced that Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009 has sold over 500,000 copies in the United States.
"We never set out to make a hardcore video game. We focused on creating an interactive training session with arguably the best-known fitness trainer on the planet. We want people to sweat and have fun doing it," said James Kosta, CEO of 3G Studios, Inc. He continued, "Jillian is fantastic to work with. We had a blast trying to keep up with her."
Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009 was released in October of 2008 and has continually landed just outside the NPD top ten every month since then. While it's likely that most gamers have never heard of it, it has slowly become one of the most popular non-Nintendo titles on the Wii. This could be due to the fact that the game was the first third party exercise game to be released on the Wii that made use of the Wii Balance Board.
3G also used this announcement to coyly hint that a sequel would be coming soon (but not too soon). The company admitted they have been contracted to create a sequel, but they also said work hasn't begun yet. Kosta closed with "I'm sure we'll be co-announcing a full-blown sequel in the future."
We'll have more on any future Jillian Michaels video games soon.
