News: Now pretend WB is Gollum clutching the license and hissing "My precious.."
According to Variety, Electronic Arts' license to make games based on the Lord of the Rings movie franchise has expired. The rights will now revert back to film studio Warner Bros.
Warner Bros.'s video game unit, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, has been expanding lately and the ability to make games based off of one of their biggest film franchises is surely a dream come true. And let's not forget the two-part theatrical retelling of The Hobbit that will be released in 2011 and 2012. You can be sure WB is working on a game based on that.
The last Lord of the Rings game released by EA was this January's Lord of the Rings: Conquest for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
