News: Nintendo continues its streak of handheld superiority.
Nintendo shipped DS number 100 million to a store somewhere in the world on March 6, 2009. It has taken the company just a little over four years (four years, four months, two weeks and a day to be exact) to reach that lofty number. For comparison's sake, the Game Boy line began in 1989 and sold a little over 200 million systems over six iterations (Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, GBA Advance SP and Game Boy Micro).
It will likely not take the DS almost 20 years to reach 200 million, especially considering the DSi and it's April 5th launch date.
Nintendo also revealed that 83 games have shipped over a million copies during the DS system's lifetime. And seven of those games, all Nintendo, have broken the 10 million copy barrier. They are...
