News: And Nintendo's fitness phenom has the sales total of the PS3 in its sights.
After doublechecking with the NPD Group, Kotaku is reporting that Wii Fit has officially outsold Microsoft's Halo 3.
According to NPD figures through the end of February, Wii Fit (which was released on in May 2008) has now sold six million copies in America versus 5.9 million for Halo 3 (which was released in September 2007). This moves Wii Fit into the number two slot on the list of all-time bestselling PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 games behind Wii Play.
If Wii Fit (and its Balance Board pack-in) continues to sell at this pace, it will pass the total US sales of the PS3 console sometime in the Summer. If the Wii Balance Board was considered its own platform, it would account for 13% of the next-gen console market in the United States.
We'll have more soon.
