News: The PS2 is not going away any time soon.

Sony has announced that the PlayStation 2 will receive a price drop on April 1. After being available since 2000 and starting out at a price of $299.99, as of tomorrow you'll be able to pick up a PS2 for $99.99, no foolin'!

This price drop will give new owners a chance to experience the almost 1,900 titles found in the PS2's library, over 250 of which are considered the "Greatest Hits" of the PlayStation 2.

Less happily, this announcement likely puts the final nail in the coffin of PS2 backwards compatibility ever being offered on the PlayStation 3 again.

More on this can be found at the PlayStation.Blog, courtesy of John Koller, Sony's Director of Hardware Marketing.
