News: Six Days in Fallujah will be the first retail game set during the Iraq War.
After first being revealed several days ago, Konami has officially announced the first retail game set during the Iraq War, Six Days in Fallujah. The game, which is being developed by wargame specialists Atomic Games, will be set during the Second Battle of Fallujah (AKA "Operation Phantom Fury"), which Konami calls "the largest urban military operation in four decades."
Striving for realism, Konami has enlisted over three dozen US Marines to consult on the game's development. They have also obtained "unprecedented access to battle plans, after action reports, photos, videos and satellite maps" and are claiming the game will be "the most authentic military shooter to date." The research will be apparent on screen as the third-person shooter will feature real-life missions, objectives and scenarios from the battle.
The urban elements of the battle will come into play as Konami plans to offer fully destructible environments in Six Days in Fallujah. Players will be given the option of "kicking in doors, blowing up walls, eliminating enemy cover and destroying the environment around them" to make the battle different every time. Finally, the game will include an online cooperative multiplayer mode.
Six Days in Fallujah will be released on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.
