--> The NPD Group has released their report on the bestselling games and consoles in March and Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360) takes the top spot. Capcom's zombie shooter sold almost a million copies on the Xbox 360 while adding nearly 600,000 more on the PlayStation 3 (which was good for fourth place). The top three was rounded out by two more big debuts, Pokemon Platinum (DS) at #2 and Halo Wars (Xbox 360) at #3.

The biggest surprise in this month's top ten was the absence of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. The first DS entry in the series sold much less than expected in spite of fantastic reviews. A report from Gamasutra revealed the game only sold 89,000 copies.

Wii Fit continued to sell well, with sales of 541,000 copies in March. For those keeping score at home, that means that Wii Fit (and the Wii Balance Board) has sold 6.541 million copies overall, while Sony has sold 7.486 million PS3 consoles. At this rate, there will be more Balance Boards than PS3 systems in the US by the end of June.
