News: Controversial shooter is canceled less than two weeks after it was announced.
Formally announced less than two weeks ago, Konami has just as quickly turned around and canceled Six Days in Fallujah, the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 shooter that would have been based on the real-life Second Battle of Fallujah (AKA "Operation Phantom Fury"). It would have been the first retail game to take place during the Iraq War.
Speaking to
Asahi Shimbun, a national Japanese newspaper, a Konami spokesman said that the reaction among some gamers in America and Europe caused them to reconsider publishing the game:
"After seeing the reaction to the videogame in the United States and hearing opinions sent through phone calls and e-mail, we decided several days ago not to sell it. We had intended to convey the reality of the battles to players so that they could feel what it was like to be there."
Konami had originally planned to release Six Days in Fallujah in 2010. It is currently unknown if developer Atomic Games will be able to look for a new publisher.
