News: But the bigger news is that Rogue Warrior is still in development.

First announced for a Fall 2007 release, Bethesda Softworks confirmed that their game based on Richard Marcinko's Rogue Warrior series is still in development and will now be released in Fall 2009. The PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 first person shooter also has a new developer: Rebellion (the company that is also working on Sega's new Aliens vs Predator game).

Bethesda didn't say why the game basically disappeared over the last two years, but they did say it will still have the Cold War settings described in Marcinko's books:

Playing as Richard "Demo Dick" Marcinko, you go behind the iron curtain to disrupt a suspected North Korean ballistic missile program. Soon into the mission, you uncover a conspiracy that could turn the tides of the Cold War in the communists' favor. You must then take the mission into your own hands as you enter into the bowels of the USSR to destroy a technology that could change the balance of geopolitical power, leaving a trail of destruction in your wake!

Finally, Bethesda also revealed that Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke (Sin City, The Wrestler) will lend his voice to the game to take on the lead role of the former Navy SEAL.

We'll have more soon.
