News: Money troubles have put the PS3 and Xbox 360 RPG on hold. Widescreen may no longer be working on Highlander game.
Widescreen Games, the developer of the PS3 and Xbox 360 port of The Witcher, The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, have announced that development on the game will be frozen due to "financial problems among the various project partners" (which includes publisher Atari and PC developer CD Projekt RED). The game was originally scheduled to be released in Fall 2009.
"The experience gained on the Witcher project shows the incredible talent, competence and tenacity of our teams. In fact the entire code of the original game was recreated by means of our proprietary engine (Da Vinci). The quality does not disappoint in relation to the improvement of the graphic assets, the creation of dynamic lights or also the mechanics of combat," commented Olivier Masclef, manager at Widescreen Games.
The company has said they will continue to focus on their other in-development games, all of which have yet to be formally announced. This may be bad news for the
Highlander game Widescreen was working on as it was announced several years ago now and Eidos has stopped listing it among it's "in-development properties" as well.
We'll have more soon.
