News: The Godfather II debuts decently as well.
The NPD Group has released their report on the bestselling games and consoles in April and Wii Fit and the DSi have dominated the competition. Nintendo's second refresh of the DS hardware pushed the handheld to sales of 1.04 million during the month, esclipsing even the mighty Wii. The only game to debut in the top ten during the month was The Godfather II at #5 (Xbox 360) and #10 (PS3).
The rest of the top ten was rounded out with older releases including Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart DS, Wii Play, New Super Mario Bros. (DS), Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (Xbox 360) and two titles that were released last month: Pokemon Platinum (DS) and Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360).
On the hardware side, aside from the DS, the PlayStation 2 also sold very well in April, surpassing the PS3 and the PSP. Looks like there's still plenty of life in the platform. And speaking of the PS3, Wii Fit has more rapidly begun to close the gap in the sales race between the two. As of the end of April,
Wii Fit (and the Wii Balance Board) sits at 7,012,000 copies while the PS3 has pushed its total to 7,613,900. Nintendo's fitness peripheral is still on pace to pass the PS3 sometime in June.
