Special: We gaze into our crystal ball and predict what will appear at E3 09.
Metal Gear Solid 4 will come to the Xbox 360
That's right. I said it and I believe it. It's happening this year. Moving on.
Odds - 5:1
Warner Bros. Interactive will announce a few new games, possibly based on classic WB movies
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is on the verge of becoming a major player in the video game world. But with the recent releases of
Wanted: Weapons of Fate and
Terminator Salvation the only game the company has announced as being in development is
Lego Rock Band (and a small hand in
Batman: Arkham Asylum). With a huge vault containing some of the greatest movies of the last century, I wouldn't put it past WBIE to announce a ton of new games at E3, with some of them based on some of their biggest properties. And with the company's recent offer to buy Midway, they may soon rival Activision and EA as one of the industry's leading megapublishers.
Odds - 8:1
God of War III: 2010
Sony has been deliberately cagey about the release date of the Kratos' next (and final) quest. They've already said the game would be released during the current fiscal year (which runs until March 31, 2010), but I think it'll get pushed back even further into 2010.
Odds - 10:1
Sony will announce a major new Playstation Eye title
The PlayStation Eye was supposed to change everything. From the innovative
Eye of Judgment to the... well that's pretty much it. Sony has ignored the EyeToy's next-generation successor and instead focused on an increasing number of shooters
Odds - 20:1
Nintendo will resurrect a long dead franchise like StarTropics
Will Nintendo resurrect
StarTropics? Probably not. What about
1080 Snowboarding or
Star Fox (see the previous page) or
Kid Icarus or
Earthbound or
Pilotwings or... or... or... The fact is, The Big N has created a ton of characters and franchises over the years that have built up rabid fan followings. The company has shown they are not averse to the idea of reviving dormant franchises (just look at the recently released
Punch-Out!!), but with Zelda and Mario due for new installments, they might not appear at this E3.
Odds - 25:1
Sony will announce a new Sly Cooper
Sony's other platforming mascot has gone on a bit of a hiatus lately. But Sucker Punch's latest game,
Infamous, shipping to stores this week, the company has a bit of free time on their hands. And I believe that free time will be filled with Sly 4 or maybe even Sly PSP. It's just a question of whether or not Sony announces it at E3 09 or at some different event.
Odds - 25:1
Another publisher will pledge to publish Six Days in Fallujah
Six Days in Fallujah was bound to court controversy. After all, it is a game based on a war that is still going on. In five years, a game like Six Days in Fallujah won't be seen as a big deal, but that's in five years. Today, the controversy was so bad it caused Konami to cancel their publishing agreement with developer Atomic Games a mere two weeks after it was first announced. Someone will pick it up (Atomic Games has vowed to continue working on it on their own), but like Sly 4, it's just a matter of whether or not it will be announced at E3.
Odds - 40:1
Sony announces something, anything about Gran Turismo 5
Gran Turismo 5 is like the boogeyman. Sony trots it out every once in a while to scare Microsoft and Nintendo, but it's not really real. It's been over a year since
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has been released and in that time there hasn't been a peep about the game. Wait, I stand corrected, Polyphony Digital CEO Kazonuri Yamauchi said the game likely wouldn't be released until 2010
at the earliest. That's why the odds of this one happening are...
Odds - 1,000:1
How accurate will our predictions be? We'll all find out together less than a week from now when the classic E3 experience returns.
