News: But where has Captain Jack Sparrow (and the rum) gone?
Disney Interactive has announced the next project from Propaganda Games, their internal studio responsible for last year's Turok. As opposed to a sequel to that dinosaur hunting shooter (which was in development before layoffs forced its cancellation), Propaganda is now working on a new game in the Pirates of the Caribbean universe titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned.
Armada of the Damned will be an action RPG set before the movie trilogy, so Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) will not be making an appearance in the game. However, Captain Jack Sparrow was pirating the seven seas during that time on the Black Pearl, so Johnny Depp's flamboyant could show up, theoretically.
As for who will definitely be appearing in the game, players will take on the role of an unnamed pirate searching for adventure in an open world environment. Players will ship out on the high seas and make landfall while fighting enemies. And "[n]umerous moral and character choices will need to be made that affect their character and the original story within the world." The game will feature supernatural elements similar to the movie including mystical creatures and Mother Nature (note the capital letters).
УArmada of the Damned is a dynamic action role-playing game that captures all of the franchise's excitement, unpredictability and action while delving into narrative elements never before explored within this unique universe,Ф said Dan Tudge, vice president and general manager, Propaganda Games. УOur team's collective experience with industry-leading RPGs and action titles provides a strong foundation for us to create and build a compelling action role-playing title.Ф
Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned will be released on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Fall 2010.
