News: Now where's Doom II you id-iots?
On the first day of Microsoft's X06 trade show in 2006, they announced that Doom was being added to the Xbox Live Arcade the same day. The game was a welcome surprise for fans of id Software's seminal first person shooter as there was no prior warning it was in the works for the XBLA. This year's E3 will receive a similar surprise as Activision and id Software plan to release id's first FPS game, Wolfenstein 3D, on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade next week.
Not only will the game include the classic Nazi-blasting gameplay (including Mecha-Hitler!), but players who defeat the twisted Nazi regime will earn gold that can be used to purchase upgraded weapons in the next game in the series, Wolfenstein, which will be released on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 4.
Wolfenstein 3D will be added to the XBLA on June 3 and on the PSN on June 4. No price was revealed, but Doom was priced at 400 Microsoft Points ($5).
We'll have more soon.
