News: Square-Enix's new MMORPG has been revealed.
With Final Fantasy XIII still a year away, Sony has gone and announced Final Fantasy XIV during their E3 2009 press briefing. The Square-Enix RPG is on track for a 2010 release on the PC and PlayStation 3, likely a few months after Final Fantasy XIII.
How can Square-Enix manage such a quick turnaround from 13 to 14 after the gap between 12 and 13 will eventually number four years? It's because Final Fantasy XIV will be an MMORPG akin to Final Fantasy XI and not a real Final Fantasy game.
Little else was revealed about the game, allow Square-Enix has said the Producer will be Hiromichi Tanaka (Final Fantasy I, II, III, XI), the Director will be Nobuaki Komoto (Final Fantasy IX, XI) and the Art Director will be Akihiko Yoshida (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII). The game's soundtrack will be supplied by Nobuo Uematsu.
Square-Enix also launched the game's official website at
FinalFantasyXIV.com, but it is being hammered right now.
We'll have more soon.
