News: What Time Magazine liked best about E3 2009.



Time Magazine has written up their picks for the Top 10 Announcements of E3 2009. While the list shows plenty of good stuff, a few of the entries make it obvious that Time is not as plugged into the pulse of the gaming community as they would like to think.

All of the picks are unnumbered, so it's not quite a countdown, but here they are (with the necessary explanation of some of Time's crypic clues):

  • Project Natal - Microsoft's controllerless motion sensing attachment for the Xbox 360 and the subsequent reveal of Milo, the virtual boy.
  • No Pulse - The non-reaction of fans to Nintendo's Vitality Sensor for the Wii.
  • Samus Aran: Xtreme Beach Volleyball - Metroid: Other M for the Wii and Nintendo's partnership with Team Ninja.
  • A Disturbance in the Force - BioWare's pledge to record voices for every non-plater character in Star Wars: The Old Republic.



  • The Kind Code - Nintendo's on the fly hints system and difficulty balancer, which will be seen in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
  • Motion Is the New Black - Sony's motion controller, currently nicknamed the "PlayStation Wand."
  • Fight Dracula. Again. - Hideo Kojima's involvement in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
  • PSP Go Time - Sony's $250 hard drive-sporting, UMD-less, smaller refresh of the PSP hardware.
  • The Never Final Fantasy - Square-Enix's announcement that Final Fantasy XIV is coming next year before Final Fantasy XIII has even been released.
  • Games on Demand - Microsoft's game download service (for Xbox 360 retail games this time).

    See what I mean? Why would Microsoft's Xbox 360 game download service even rate on this list? It's something Sony was doing over a year ago.
