News: 2K chooses the Lakers star with Spike Lee behind the camera.
2K Games has announced that the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant, the 11-time NBA All-Star and face of the league, will grace the cover of NBA 2K10. Scheduled for a release this Fall, NBA 2K10 is in development at Visual Concepts for the PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360.
УI've been playing sports video games for as long as I can remember and honestly, I've never seen one come so close to replicating real basketball. What 2K Sports has done is truly incredible and I'm proud to be a partner with them and on the cover of NBA 2K10,Ф said Bryant, currently seeking his fourth career NBA championship. У2K Sports is constantly improving and adding something new to their game every year that makes them better and better, and that's exactly what I try to do each season with my game. It's as if 2K Sports has been on a sports video game championship run for several years now, and I'm not even sure there's a word for that kind of dominance.Ф
To showcase Bryant's inclusion in the game, 2K recruited Spike Lee (noted filmmaker and die hard New York Knicks fan) to direct a commercial for the game. In the commercial, Lee revealed 2K's plan to put the final cover design of the game to a vote. By going to
2KSports.com/vote, gamers can vote on which of the four Kobe covers will adorn the final game. Lee's commercial can be viewed at 2K's site as well.
As you can see, one of the choices features Kobe Bryant sporting a New York Knicks jersey. With Bryant eligible to opt-out of his contract during the offseason, perhaps this is a foreshadowing of his future plans.
Voting for the contest runs from now until June 15.
