News: EA sends a Sicilian message to video games based on The Godfather.

Electronic Arts' President Frank Gibeau recently talked to the Los Angeles Times Company Town blog and revealed that the company has whacked any future games based on The Godfather.

The most recent game in the franchise was this April's The Godfather II. The game, which was released on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, has been taken out back and strangled with piano wire by critics. At Metacritic, the three versions of the game are averaging scores in the mid-60s while its Game Rankings average is a slightly more forgiving 69%. Combined with lackluster sales, the economics of a Godfather III just didn't make sense.

Gibeau was quoted as saying "We're not going to do another one." He also confirmed the company had no more Godfather games on its production schedule, which is set for the next three years. An EA representative later told the LA Times, "We do not currently have a Godfather game in development. Nothing has been decided as to future sequels. Paramount is a great partner."

Translated into Godfather-speak, that's analogous to "I don't want anything to happen to [Fredo] while my mother's alive." And we all know what happened to Fredo...

As if to drive the final nail in the series' coffin, Gibeau was finally quoted as saying "The bloom is really off the rose for licensed games."

There you have it. We'll have more soon.
