News: The adventures of veiny balls you can hold in the palm of your hand will soon be a video game!
Did you grow up in the 80s? Were you the parent to a small child in the 80s? If you answered yes to either of those questions, I'm sure you remember Madballs quite well. Why am I bringing up the baseball-sized balls that featured gross monster heads on them in 2009? Because Madballs are back baby. And they're starring in their own PC and Xbox Live Arcade title, which will be released this Summer.
First released in 1986, Madballs were considered by some to be "the gross-out phenomenon of the decade" (although I think The Garbage Pail Kids and their baby with staples in its eyes wins that title). The toys were resurrected last year and now Playbrains is working on Madballs in Babo:Invasion, an arena-based 3D shooter.
The game will star Oculus Orbus and Horn Head in an arena shooter that players will be able to fully customize before each match by placing combination of different map tiles on the arena floor:
Madballs in...Babo:Invasion is an arena-based 3D shooter featuring Oculus Orbus, a slimy mass of bloodshot veins who possesses an ultra-deadly "Ramming Speed" superpower that allows him to stun attack his enemies, and a super-speedy "Fast Forward" ability, which he uses to escape danger and any incoming fatal blows. Also up for the Babo:Invasion challenge is Horn Head, a bodiless Cyclops with a massive horn jutting out of his forehead who can spin his nose chain with his "Psycho Slash" power to inflict pain, or taking it to the next level, can become an insane "Psyclone" of slobber and destruction. Both characters are fully loaded with weapons, unlockable weapon modes and plenty of Madballs' attitude.
The game will also include a four-player online cooperative mode as well a combat mode that will allow up to 16 players (and their Avatars) to join the fun. According to Playbrains, Madballs will be the only game to include Avatar support for more than eight players.
We'll have more soon.
