News: They're finally moving on to their other projects. Maybe. Find out what's the deal inside.
CVG recently talked to Lars Bakken, senior designer at Bungie, who confirmed that next year's Halo: Reach will be the last Halo game on the Xbox 360:
When asked if it would be safe to assume whether or not Reach is Bungie's last Halo game for the 360 platform, Bakken explained, "In terms of a platform for Halo games made by Bungie, yes. I can't answer that question for Microsoft though. Whether they have something in the works or not, I don't know if they're actually ready to talk about it yet, but in terms of Bungie-produced Halo games, ODST and then Reach is probably all you're going to get."
This quote brings with it the rather interesting implication that the Xbox 720 (or whatever Microsoft ends up calling it) may be closer than we think as Bakken stressed that Reach would be the last Bungie-developed Halo game for the "[Xbox] 360 platform." Perhaps Bungie is already hard at work on Halo sequel for Microsoft's next "next generation" machine, although that is purely speculation at this point.
Whatever the future holds for Bungie, you can be sure we'll be there with the news. Hopefully soon.
