News: Another Halo game bites the dust.

Halo: Chronicles, a collaboration between Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and Microsoft to create a new game in the Halo universe, was first announced at E3 2007. In the two years since then, Microsoft has barely mentioned the project, preferring instead to focus on Halo Wars and now Halo: ODST. But during that time they have been quietly assembling an internal team of developers (including veteran developers formally of Kojima Productions and Gearbox Software) to work on Halo-related projects.

However, Joystiq spoke to Peter Jackson at Comic-Con and the director confirmed that Halo: Chronicles is as good as dead.

Is the Halo project you were working on still happening?

Jackson: That Halo project is no longer happening, it sort of collapsed when the movie didn't end up happening.

So there you have it. While Microsoft is no doubt working on future Halo games, they won't be working on them with Peter Jackson (or Bungie for that matter).
