News: Dead Space, starring Shia LaBeouf, coming soon (kidding, but Caruso obviously likes working with him).
Variety is reporting that Electronic Arts has begun moving forward in their quest to bring Dead Space to the big screen by signing a director. D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) will take on the directing reins and will produce the film with EA. Caruso, EA and Temple Hill Entertainment are currently reviewing pitches from screenwriters interested in bringing the game to life.
Executives at EA have previously talked about bringing Dead Space to the silver screen. In October, EA Games president Frank Gibeau said that the ideal Dead Space movie would bridge the story between the first game and the still hush-hush Dead Space 2. On that note, the Variety mentioned that EA is actually working on the second and third games in the series: "EA launched the game in 2008 and is working on the second and third installments."
Of course, it's more likely the article was referring to Dead Space 2 and the franchise's first appearance on the Wii,
Dead Space: Extraction, which will be released this September.
Dead Space is not the only movie based on a video game Caruso and Temple Hill are working on. Caruso is also behind the movie adaptation of
Defender while Temple Hill has teamed up with director Len Wiseman to create a
Gears of War movie.
We'll have more soon.
