News: More video game mockery from Vicious Cycle commences this week.

Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond, the side-scrolling sequel to last year's Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard, will be added to the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network this week. The $14.99 download (which translates to 1200 Microsoft Points) will be available for the XBLA on Wednesday, January 6) and the PSN on Thursday, January 7.

Like Eat Lead, Blood Bath and Beyond will attempt to be a hilarious sendup of video gaming's past, particularly the 1990s heyday of testosterone-fueled muscleheads like Duke Nukem. Unlike Eat Lead, Blood Bath and Beyond will emulate the classic 2D side-scroller it's lampooning by actually being a 2D side-scroller, albeit with modern graphics.

This playful sense of fun even extends to the game's announcement on the PlayStation.Blog, as Eric Peterson, President and CEO of Vicious Cycle Software states in the introduction that Blood Bath and Beyond is the followup to the "2009 blockbuster next-gen hit" Eat Lead. He later sheepishly admits the game wasn't a blockbuster, but that it was released in 2009.

Let's hope Blood Bath and Beyond is half as funny. We'll have more soon.
