News: Fastest-selling single-platform game ever.
The Nikkei, a Japanese newspaper, is reporting that New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold over ten million copies since it was released a little over two months ago. According to the article, the game has sold three million copies in Japan, another three million in Europe and 4.5 million in North America. The Nikkei report also states that NSMBWii has now become the fastest selling single-platform game ever.
For comparison's sake, Super Mario Galaxy was released in November 2007 and it has sold 8.5 million copies to date worldwide. The last 2D Mario game, New Super Mario Bros. for the DS, has sold over 21 million copies since its release in 2006. So NSMBWii still has something to shoot for.
We'll have more soon. And when New Super Mario Bros. Wii passes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (which is inevitable), we'll have that too.
