News: Locusts... Akrid... they all get chopped up the same by a Lancer.

Lost Planet 2 developer Jun Takeuchi has talked about his admiration for the Gears of War series many times, even going so far as to list it as one of the inspirations for Resident Evil 5.

Developer Epic and Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski have decided to return the favor by loaning Capcom the game's massive main characters, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Marcus and Dom will be included in Lost Planet 2's multiplayer mode, where they will be slicing and dicing a new set of bug-eyed aliens, the Akrid.

CliffyB is thrilled with the Gears' guys inclusion in Lost Planet 2 and has referred to the partnership as "kick ass news" on his Twitter account.

Capcom has unveiled a new trailer showcasing the team-up, which you can check out right here:

Lost Planet 2 will be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (obviously without Marcus and Dom) on May 18.

We'll have more soon.
