News: People really, really like the Mass Effect series.
The original Mass Effect surprised everyone by selling 1.6 million copies in its first months of availability back in 2007. So naturally, expectations for Mass Effect 2 were a tad bit higher. But it looks like developer BioWare has delivered one of the first massive hits of 2010 as EA announced the game has sold two million since it was released last week.
Not only that but, according to EA, Mass Effect 2 has also earned "40 perfect scores, amassed over 30 editor's choice awards and has donned the covers of 45 magazines worldwide." Mass Effect was also a big hit on Twitter as it broke into the Trending Topics Top 10 on the microblogging site on launch day while also being the most searched term on Google News.
Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA said, "Mass Effect 2 is poised to be one of the biggest games of 2010. We could not be more proud of the game's universal acclaim and early commercial success."
BioWare has already begun work on the closing chapter of the Mass Effect trilogy, Mass Effect 3, which they hope to release next year.
