News: Sony isolates the PS3 bug, but won't have a fix today.
UPDATE: Service has been restored to the PlayStation Network and
your PS3 should be operational once again.
Per the
PlayStation.Blog, Sony has isolated the bug causing so many PS3s to bug out today. Apparently there is a problem in the clock functionality in all pre-2009 PlayStation 3 systems (PS3 Slim systems are unaffected).
Sony is working on a fix and they hope to deliver one in the next 24 hours. During that time, Sony is advising PS3 owners not to use their systems:
In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
Once again, Sony offered their apologies to the PlayStation community for this mess.
We'll have more soon and don't forget to follow the official Sony PlayStation
Twitter feed for up-to-the-second updates about the bug fix.
